This photograph is a great example of how digital programs can be used to create new, exciting art that hovers between traditional portraiture and whimsical fantasy. The vibrant colors of 'Red Whale' make me happy to look at, and as an Art Editor I'm very pleased to have received such a bold image to use as our cover art!

This was the unanimous favorite when we were choosing the cover art. The clashes of red and blue not only catch our attention but keep it. There's a certain distortion of reality with the hugeness of the skirt and blue leaves, and the expression on the woman's face tells us that perhaps she's dreaming. It pops right off the paper, and that really set the tone for the first issue.
